Secrets [Chapter Two]
I smiled at Raven, gave him a small scratch behind his ears, and headed back inside. Mother would be furious if she found out I was in the stables.
"You are a royal young woman. You should not be spending time around those filthy animals unless they're pulling your carriage."
I never knew if she meant the servants or the horses. Either way, it was cruel wording. I entered the castle and made my way upstairs to the library. Mother would be so busy worrying about impressing King Phillip that she wouldn't wonder where I was for a while, right? I snuck around the corner and made sure Mother was nowhere in sight. Seeing that the coast was clear,

Secrets [Chapter One]
Today Mother told us of the surprise.
It was just as the girls had expected.
King Phillip is visiting our kingdom in two days and is bringing his children.
Mother told us of their family. King Phillip is one of the most powerful rulers in all of Mendosia.
She stated that we must all be presentable at all times. She also mentioned that he is looking for a wife for his son, Prince Adam.
Of course she is looking for a suitor.
Rose and Violet were absolutely thrilled at the prospect of discovering new suitors. I will never understand those two girls.

Secrets [Prolouge]
My name is Rain. I'm am the second child of King Erik and Queen Amelia. I have an older brother, and two younger sisters.
Damien is the eldest and next in line for the throne. He is 24 years old. He has nearly combed sandy brown hair which shines gold on a sunny day. His eyes are like two pieces of blue-grey ice. He spends much time outside sword fighting with the guards, giving him a darker complexion than the rest of the family. He has a few freckles scattered across his cheeks.
I come next. I am 22 years old, currently learning how to be a 'proper' young lady. Mother truly despises how much I wish to be more like the men.
"You were born

"We can make it through most anything, if you can just believe."
Every night for the past week, you've had the same dream.
It's dark outside, and you're alone. You're standing in the middle of an empty street, you can barely breathe, and you don't recognize your surroundings.
There's a boy staring at you from down the street. He's far enough so that you can't see his face or notice any distinguishable features. He's bathed in the glow of a streetlamp; if you walked forward about twenty or thirty feet, then you'd be face-to-face.
Without knowing why, you begin to run towards him; for you'd suddenly felt an intense affection for him—eve

“Take my hand, love. Onward to a better place.”
London, England: The Great Plague. Year: 1665.
The black-death epidemic was killing him.
Though, not literally killing him. He had yet to be infected. For now, he was just so stressed, devastated, and worried to the point where his life felt like a living hell. And hell meant death.
In other words, the bubonic plague- an incurable disease caused by bacteria- was slowly, painfully killing him in a different way than everyone else.
He’d never felt more useless in his entire life.
He tried so hard to protect them. He searched everywhere for an answer.
But in the end, all he

The Canvas and the Painter
I watch you sleep so peacefully, your hands resting by my stomach, your head next to mine.
On my skin are long, red, puffy lines that streak down my body, fading eventually. Red paint, dried from last night, appears now and then on those lines. Across my arms are tiny ovals, also red, appearing in groups of five. My stomach is stamped with purple and brown splotches, and sometimes is quite sore when touched but I don't mind
